The Cauldron
Location
South Clerk (pr. cl-ar-k) street; Edinburgh. Inbetween the Odean cimema and the Queens hall. Map
Drinks
A small range of beers and real ales, cold and normal guinus, cydre and blackcurrent. The usual spirits.
Atmosphere
Very Goth and Industrial, with a mix of Metal/Punk. More punks now that the Tap (punk pub) has closed. Very good duke box, fetish(in dress only , no play !),gay,bi,les,TV,TS,pagan freindly. The pub has a very pagan theme, with Tarot readings on some Tuesdays. Often used buy the alternative clubing scene for a pre-venue drink.
Very freindly bar staff. They also have a Switch(tm) machine behind the bar.
Update, Aug 8th 2000; The Cauldron has been given a face lift. It now has lepard skin walls and tiger shin/furry seats. :-), see these pictures
Surrounding Area
The closest Edinburgh gets to a Goth district. Very close to the main Uni of Ed. student residences. Hardly ever any trouble. On a major bus route (7,31).
Bad points
Poor toilet facilities, no shelf and mirror in males. Not enough room to swing a cat.
Good Points
One of the best Goth pubs in Edinburgh. Always friendly, relatively cheep, good service. Alowed to bring in food. wednesdays is a good night to get an introduction to the pub, a large cross section turn up. From gay to Goth to Medeavel sword figthers, including Ed.G.&.R..
Note:
Due to some loatish behaviour involving a food fight with pizza the Cauldron has banded all hot food from the pub. However cold pizza ( i.e. in a lunch box, not the pizza box) or sandwiches are OK.
